APPLE CREEK FISHERY AT GROSJEAN PARK, WOOSTER, OHIO APRIL 5, 2010

 Thanks to everyone who helped with the stocking of Apple Creek on Saturday, March 27. Over 450 rainbow and brown trout were stocked and plus litter was picked up along the stream by the more than two-dozen volunteers from CFRTU. See member pictures!! The cost to the City and CFRTU was $2,500 to purchase the trout. This was the 11th stocking of Apple Creek at Grosjean Park and begins the 6th year of making this fishery available to the public.

We need your help! We know that most of you are practicing CATCH AND RELEASE. This is the only way to sustain this fishery. We need to make everyone aware of the Trout Unlimited policy of catch and release. If you see someone harvesting trout, please approach them and KINDLY BUT FIRMLY let them know that ignoring the posted suggestions is not aprecaited. We encourage fly fishing, fishing with single, barbless (not treble) hooks for spin fishermen and we especially discourage the use of bait. Bait hooks often lodge deep in the fishes mouth, making survival of released trout problematic!

If you encounter someone abusing the fishery and deliberately ignoring state fishing regulations, please call 1-800-POACHER and report the infractions. Remember, YOU MUST HAVE A VALID OHIO FISHING LICENSE to fish Apple creek. All it takes is a few fishermen abusing this fishery to spoil it for everyone. Please be willing to stand up and protect the stream and the trout for the sports fisherman.
