Skip Nault: Small foam beetle tied with peacock herl abdomen and black elk hair legs. This fly is tied on a #16 nymph hook, the next fly pictured is tied on a #14 nymph hook. |

Skip Nault: Top view of a foam beetle. The foam strip comes with an orange stripe. After securing the foam at the base of the hook, three strands of peacock herl are wound around the base of the hook to form the abdomen. The foam is pulled over the peacock herl and tied down with tying thread. The rubber legs are then tied in. The foam is cut in the front to form a head. The orange stripe is easy to see by the fisherman. From below, the fish sees a black beetle with an irridescent abdomen. |

Skip Nault: Trout Unlimiteds Ron Thompson gives instructions to students of all ages at the June 5, 2009 Fly Fishing Clinic held on Cold Creek at the ODNR Division of Wildlife trout hatchery at Castalia. Students are selected by lottery by the DOW. Classes are held in the mornings and afternoons on 5 Fridays beginning in April and ending in June. |
