Comments: What a great morning to fly fish Apple Creek and what a day of fishing it was. I started out nymphing with an Aurora nymph and a pink sucker spawn trailing behind and then replaced the sucker spawn with a red squirmy wormy. I used a small orange strike indicator to drift the flies and when the trout started rising for the indicator, I dry fly fished with a Royal Wulff. That was special! I caught 9 trout on the sucker spawn, 5 on the squirmy wormy, 2 on the Aurora and the final 8 on the Royal Wulff. All were rainbows ranging from 11 to 17 inches. The bigger trout put up a good fight with acrobatics. The number I caught and released does not count the fish that jumped and threw the hook.
The water is a bit low and gin clear. I encountered 7 other fishers, 6 with fly rods; one was spin fishing. All were practicing catch and release.
A reminder that next Saturday morning (Oct. 26) the stream will be closed to all but those in our "Learn to Fly Fish" class and their instructors.
