Comments: A great day on Apple Creek!!!!! I rarely fish dry flies, but I noticed that rainbows have been rising all week for tiny midges, so I tied up half a dozen, CDC midge emergers on #24 dry fly hooks. The pattern just calls for a thread body and thorax. I used white or grey CDC feathers for the thorax and wings. Once you have tied a few, it is fairly easy.

I used two flies, a #16 Parachute mayfly pattern as a sighter, and then a length of 7X tippet to tie on the midge. That's the tough part, working with such tiny flies and tiny tippet, tying them on that is. All trout were caught on the midge pattern. Also, these are one fish flies. Once they get slimed, they no longer clean up very well. See photo of the fly under pictures.

The water was low and very, very clear. There was a constant hatch of midges. I ran into three other fly fishers, and all had success.

A REMINDER, THIS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 11, WE WILL BE STOCKING RAINBOW TROUT ONCE AGAIN IN APPLE CREEK AT GROSJEAN PARK. THE STOCKING WILL BEGIN AT 10 A.M. AND WE SHOULD BE FINISHED BEFORE NOON. WE CAN USE YOUR HELP, PLUS IT IS A LOT OF FUN!!
