Fish feeding on top for emerging midges in several spots I visited, but no luck with tiny midge emerger pattern, so I switched to a bead head squirmy-wormy and caught 3. Then switched to small red and yellow clouser minnow and caught 3 more and lost a couple. I use barbless hooks when I tie.

Color matters!! When I fished a chartreuse and white clouser, the trout would not give it a look. When the water is this clear, you can really see what is happening with the flies and fish. By the way, the trout are hanging out with large numbers of hog-nosed suckers.

Saw and talked to a new trout angler from Kentucky (light spin tackle) and saw him catch his first two trout. There were up to half a dozen other anglers on the stream. I saw one bait fisher hurry by on the other side of the creek with a big bucket. Want to bet he was not practicing catch and release?
