Fished an eastern Ohio tributary today from 7:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with Harry Hoitink. The weather was light rain most of the day. The water was stained with about a foot of visibility. All the fish were in deep holes and runs. Harry was 3 landed for 8 hookups, I was 2 for 4. All fish landed or seen clearly had been in the river for a while, with pretty pink stripes and a darker color. No fresh fish! We nymph fished the entire time with large black stonefly patterns or black and purple Swarmer swimmers the best flies. One steelhead was caught on a pearl crystal meth egg pattern. No other anglers seen. Steelhead varied in size from 3.5 to 5.5 pounds.
