Comments: It was a cold day on an eastern Ohio tributary. Air temps never got over 35F. Water temps were 36F earlier in the day and 41F later on with the sun out all day. Water levels were up with melted snow runoff contributing to the flow. Water visibility was 12 to 18 inches.
We ended the day with 14 hookups and landed 8. No luck early on, but once water warmed up so did the bite. The fish ranged in size from 2.0 to 5.0 pounds, including several spawned out females. and a couple of fresh fish. We tried a variety of fly patterns, but ultimately all fish we landed took a white death streamer fished in a dead drift.
The day before, two CFRTU member landed 27 steelhead in the same stretch of river. Goes to show what a difference a day can make. See gallery for new pictures!
