Comments: We fished an eastern Lake Erie tributary from 8am to noon. Water had been high, but today was quite fishable, though still a little high. Water visibility was ~18" and water temp was 44F. We fished two holes known to hold steelhead. In the first hole, we fished 1.5 hours, but only got one 4lb fresh steelhead that took a white death minnow pattern. In the second hole, we took three fish (2, 5, and 7lbs), two on a white death streamer, one on a Mickey Finn, and lost two others. Both of us, and others we saw, were having the best success with minnow patterns that mimicked a Lake Erie Emerald Shiner. More rain should bring in more steelhead, so fishing should improve over the next several weeks. Time to start the 2018 steelhead season!
